Very, very few guitar players can do what Mr. Atkins does - not only does he play guitar, but he thinks in guitar - every note, chord, slur, it's all perfectly suited to the instrument. The only other players who have such well-tuned guitar sensibility I can think of are Steve Howe and Tommy Emmanuel.

You might be talking about speed. Chet can play fast music, he can play a jazz to make your foot tap. He can make you cry with his guitar. You, sir or ma'am, are a total moron if you think that Eddie Van Halen could accomplish all those feats.

Completely different styles. You must not be much of a guitar student if you don't know who Chet Atkins is. If you asked Eddie Van Halen about Chet, he'd tell you himself that Chet could "pwn" him any day. Guitarists around the world have the utmost respect for Mr. Atkins, perhaps you could educate yourself as well.
